Riley is now 5 pounds 1 ounce. She is doing so well at growing and trying to catch up to her big sister. Addison is gaining a little slower this week so she is 5 pounds 6 ounces. There is only a 5 ounce difference between the two girls now. I'm starting to feel the extra weight when I hold and feed them. The girls are still hit and miss with the feedings. Yesterday Addison did all of one feeding and most of another one while I was there. Riley was only doing about half of her feeds before getting tired and needing to use her feeding tube to finish.
At this point I thought I would have the girls home. The doctors estimated a 2-3 week stay in the NICU before going home, but as always, the feedings are the hardest thing for the babies to learn. We are now past that time frame so it is completely up to the girls at this point. The girls still need to nipple all of their feedings for 48 hours before they can go home. That is 16 feedings in a row where they complete the entire bottle. I sure hope they can do this really soon.
We did our discharge and infant CPR class last night. Infant CPR has changed since Jesse and I were certified. Mostly, the changes make it easier to perform CPR with less things to remember. I do hope we never need to perform CPR on our girls but it is good to know we have the skills to take care of them if something happens.

It sounds like they are making great progress! The thing about babies like this is that one day, they can be too tired and unable to do something, and then the next day . . . bam! They grow infinitely stronger and get the hang of it. I hope tomorrow brings another huge leap! - Tess
ReplyDeleteRiley is doing an excellent job of growing! I bet she passes her sister up in the next few months, lol!
ReplyDelete16 complete feedings down the hatch seems like a lot. Sometimes they just don't WANT the whole feeding... and they still act that way a 2 yrs 355 days! LOL!
You'll have them home before long!
That is great that she is catching up. I hope you are home real soon with both girls!
